Baked Chick Peas

As far as healthy snacks go, baked chick peas are one of the best. They can also form part of your main meal but for times when you want to snack but don't want to reach for crisps and nuts, these work a treat.

So next time you are cozying up on the sofa on a Friday night with a glass of wine (your weekend treat) to watch a movie, rather than tuck into a bowl of nuts, try substituting them for baked chick peas. I say substitute rather than replace because these really hit the spot just like nuts would. They are packed with spicy flavours so are in no way bland! And by the time you have baked them, they are lovely and crunchy.

Mix together whichever spices you want. Our favourite mix is:

2 cans chick peas, drained and rinsed
2 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp chilli powder
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
1/2 tsp sea salt

Mix all the spices above in a bowl with the olive oil and tip in the chick peas, mixing it thoroughly to coat the chick peas in the spices.

Spread the chick peas on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and put in a pre heated oven at 180 degrees for about 30 to 40 minutes.

Let them cool (this only takes about 5 or 10 minutes) and put them in a bowl ready for your movie. They are really tasty! The baked chick peas will actually stay crunchy for a few days in a resealable bag so you could make them and take them to work over the next couple of days for a healthy mid afternoon snack.
