Beauty Tip: Cleaning Makeup Brushes
Good quality makeup brushes are one of the secrets to perfectly applied makeup. If you don't spend a lot of money on your makeup, be sure to invest in good quality brushes as they will help perfect your finished look. And the good thing is they will last you a long time, so it is not a regular purchase.
So, when you invest in a good set of brushes, it is equally important to look after them to ensure their durability over time, and get rid of the build up of dirt and oil that accumulates on them after each use, which can cause break outs and clogged pores. How often you clean them depends on how often you use them. If you apply makeup every day using the same brushes then you should probably clean them once a week.
There are lots of lotions on the market for specifically cleaning makeup brushes so if you prefer to use these, then go ahead. However, cleaning makeup brushes is not complicated, so all you really need is baby shampoo (which is very mild, obviously!) and warm water. Start by rinsing your brush under warm (not hot) water, then squirt a bit of shampoo in the palm of your hand and swirl the brush around in it to clean it. To rinse it off, run it under a warm tap again until it runs clear. Our secret tip here is to wear a rubber glove on the hand that you are using to swirl the brush around on. This way your fingers won't end up like dried prunes. When running the brush under the water be sure to hold it downwards so that water does not get into the handle part, as this causes the glue to loosen.
Once they are clean, squeeze out the excess water and pat them with a clean dry cloth. Reshape them and leave them to air dry out of direct sunlight, lying them flat on a surface.
That's all there is to it, just remember to do it often!
