Pretty Green X The Beatles
The Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album embodies the spirit of 1967’s ‘Summer of Love’. A spirit of peace, love and experimentation that captured the hearts of millions of people all over the world. Today the music of Sgt. Pepper still inspires those sentiments just as much as it did back then.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of that album, Pretty Green have collaborated with The Beatles for a collection that sees each item inspired by actual outfits that The Beatles wore, along with the music and artwork from Sgt. Pepper.
The Pretty Green X Beatles collection includes a range of unique prints throughout the collection that have been hand drawn and digitally printed in house and inspired by detail worn by The Beatles.
It's been said that you could form a whole new band with all the people who have been called ‘The Fifth Beatle’ over the years, members who were almost but not quite a fixture of the Fab Four. The song ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’ – a nostalgic look back at The Beatles' past in Liverpool, named after the Salvation Army children's home in the suburb of Woolton where John Lennon grew up – is the musical equivalent.
Inspired by the shirt worn by Ringo Starr, the Shears shirt has been carefully hand drawn in house with fine floral designs and then digitally printed. The lyrics ‘All You Need Is Love’ can be found incorporated within the pattern, a song title that was released in 1967. The name ‘Shears’ is derived from Billy Shears who was an alias for Ringo Starr and was used as the announcement for the second song on the ‘Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’ album ‘With A Little Help From My Friends’. He was the fictional leader of the fictional Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Band.
Fifty years ago, not long after the last live tour the Beatles would ever play, the band released an album that changed pop music, and the way we listen to it, forever.
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band broke boundaries and records, encapsulated the era's counterculture and inclusiveness, and paved the way for progressive rock. It was the biggest selling album of the 1960s and a 2003 poll for Rolling Stone named it the greatest, most influential album of all time.
The print for the Hello Goodbye T-Shirt has been directly influenced from the cover artwork of the single ‘Hello, Goodbye’ released in 1967. The playful artwork has been printed onto the centre of the Pretty Green grey T-Shirt. Inside the T-Shirt on the back of the neck is a print that has been hand drawn and inspired by a section of the drum that can be found on the front cover of the Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band album.
