Brands We Desire: Missoma

Missoma is the brand that got me back into fine gold jewellery. I have always worn pieces of fine silver jewellery or costume jewellery, which I am currently not into and it wasn't until I came across this demi-fine contemporary brand that I fell in love with it again. I can't claim that with many brands. I love everything about this brand, it's ethos, their designs and the meaning behind many of their pieces. I think this really helps you to connect with a brand, it's not just a piece of jewellery, it's got a story to tell and it's got a history.

The British brand's philosophy is to create jewellery that can be worn everyday and pieces that can be either worn alone or layered together, embracing versatility and individuality. The collection includes delicate, distinctive pieces which combine semi-precious gemstones with delicate zircon pavé set in 18ct gold vermeil.

Missoma founder and creative director, Marisa Hordern has collected gemstones with her mother since she was 5 years old. At school, she always got asked where she got her energy from and she would joke that it came from 'the crystals', which were all around her bedroom. Even her uncle believed there was too much energy in her room. However, this wasn't to be a passing phase, and as her love for her gemstones deepened, she began making jewellery from her kitchen table. She sourced her gemstones from all over the world, including Hong Kong, Thailand, India and the US and now even sources them from the rough stone to create her own shapes and cuts. Marisa told us that travelling to India to choose the gemstones based on their depth of colour, clarity or patterns, is her favourite part of being a jewellery designer.
