10 Minute Makeup Look
I have adopted a 10 minute makeup look that never fails for me. It’s what I wear when I don’t have time or don’t want to think about what to wear or what colours to wear. This look, for me, goes with any outfit I wear.
This isn’t specifically a minimal makeup look or a ‘no makeup’ makeup look. By contrast, these looks can actually take more time to create. It’s just a look that I know works every time. I have many eyeshadows, blushers and lipsticks that I will wear depending on what outfit I put on, what mood I am in or just the type of look I want to achieve that day. This 10 minute makeup look is one that requires no thought but most importantly doesn’t look like no thought has gone into it.
I don’t fuss about primer or highlighter when I only have a 10 minute window, bronzer really depends on whether I can fit it in…..
So, I start with my go to foundation for everyday use, which is Laura Mercier Candleglow Soft Luminous Foundation. This is my favourite foundation when I don’t need or want a fuller coverage. It is perfectly light in consistency so blends in quickly with minimum effort without compromising on results. This foundation offers a beautiful dewy finish, which when you don’t have time for primer or highlighter sits perfectly on its own.
Then it’s on to concealer, which you just can’t miss. I use Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer under my eyes and then the Nars Soft Matte Concealer around my nose, chin and any other imperfections I may have that day. These two have been my go to concealers for quite a while now so no thought required here.
I recently purchased the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder and I absolutely love it, to the point that I feel like something is missing if I don’t use it. I used to only use setting powder under my eyes and on my chin, basically anyway I had concealer. I don’t have oily or combination skin so don’t need to take any shine down. But this powder (I use the shade Dim Light) applied all over the face transforms the look of your makeup, albeit subtly. It adds depth and glow and when you don’t have time for bronzer and highlighters, this is perfect. I sometimes choose to only wear this powder over foundation and nothing else.
Next is the eyes and for me, when all else fails (i.e. you have no time to think about colours, finishes, 3 colour blending) I always use Laura Mercier Caviar Stick in Amethyst. This colour is a perfect taupe with a hint of shimmer which blends with so much ease it is the only thing I reach for in a hurry. The formula is fabulous and I even favour it over my beloved Bobbi Brown eyeshadow sticks, which I also love. I’ll finish off my eyes with a quick stroke of eyeliner dotted along my eyelash and blended in. I use the Elizabeth Arden Smokey Eye Pencil, which has been a favourite of mine for about two years. It’s so quick and easy. The pencil is soft and doesn’t pull on your eye. A touch of mascara on my lashes with Lancome Hypnose, one coat if need be will work. My eyebrows can take me literally 10 seconds so no need to skip this stage. I love the double ended eyebrow pencils that can be feathered on with minimal effort and have the brush at the other end. I am currently using Burberry’s Eyebrow Definer.
For blusher that doesn’t require much thought, I usually opt for one of two. Either Nars Blusher in Orgasm, never lets me down, it’s pinky peach works with most looks. I’ll choose this one if I want a touch of shimmer and if I want a matt finish I go for Surratt Artistique Blush in Parfait, which is one of my all time favourite blushers. Again it’s peachy pink and has the most beautiful powder finish.
Last up is a pop of colour on the lips and undoubtedly for me, when I need to add a touch of colour to my lips and I am running out the door, I will always reach for Dior Addict Lip Glow in Coral. These lipsticks are sheer and work with your own lip colour to enhance them with a little glow. I actually wear this lipstick on many occasions.
So that’s my quick 10 minute makeup look that requires no level of thinking but works every time.
