Louis Vuitton Men’s SS19 Show
A very emotional Virgil Abloh takes his bow after showing his debut collection of menswear for Louis Vuitton at Paris Fashion Week.
We are huge fans of this creative genius, a man who has come to the forefront of the fashion world despite the fact he didn't climb through the traditional ranks of most fashion designers. Following studies in civil engineering and architecture, he entered into an internship at Fendi alongside Kanye West, which saw the two become friends and subsequently work together, which in turn lead to the launch of his eponymous brand Off-White. When talent is in your blood, it doesn't what how conventional your fashion training has been, it just needs to heard and seen. Perhaps the fact that he didn't study fashion gives him that raw edge and allows him to connect with his fans and clients.
So, it's no wonder that fashion house Louis Vuitton snapped him up to become artistic director of menswear. If anyone can bring a brand into the modern way of thinking, it's Virgil Abloh. He has made history by becoming the first black designer for Louis Vuitton and in the process created a masterpiece.
Kanye West, of course, was the first man to greet him with an emotional hug when he stepped out at the end of the show. A host of celebrities embraced the front row including Kim Kardashian West, Rihanna, ASAP Rocky, Alexander Skarsgard and Rita Ora. Models included rapper and producer Kid Cudi, along with a series of Abloh’s high profile pals including Theophilus London, Dev Hynes and Blondey McCoy.
What started out on the catwalk as a series of tailoring in shades of off-white burst into a rainbow of colours and ended with a Wizard of Oz motif. An absolutely stunning debut show for Virgil Abloh at Louis Vuitton. Watch the show in full to appreciate this man's talent:
