Yohji Yamamoto - Y3 SS19 Show
As part of their long established cool partnership, Yohji Yamamoto and Adidas launched their Y-3 Spring/Summer 2019 collection at Paris Fashion Week Men’s, both men and womenswear. The show at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs at the Palais du Louvre, celebrated the human form and for this particular program was the usual black, black and more black, oh and some white is best.
Yamamoto drenched his runway in high-tech performance fabrics such as Gore-Tex, engineered mesh, stretch yarns and adidas’s Adizero technology. Pieces were packable, reversible and lightweight and they floated dramatically down the runway. On closer view lots of hidden zips, harnesses and utility features among the looks too.
This being Y-3, lots of cool new sneakers such as Raito Racer, a new silhouette, alongside new versions of the Kaiwa, Red, Kasabaru and Runner 4-D shoes of high-tech adidas innovations — Boost, Primeknit and Digital Light Synthesis, a technology that Y-3’s press release cites as a “breakthrough in shoe design.”
The show came to a close when two billowing nylon skirts floated down the runway, a nod to the show’s nautical inspiration.
