Movie Trailer: The Little Stranger
If you like all things eerie, then this could be the movie for you. Out in cinemas today is The Little Stranger, from the director of The Room, Lenny Abrahamson and based on a 2009 book written by Sarah Waters.
The Little Stranger tells the story of Dr Faraday (played by Domhnall Gleeson, a huge fan of ours at Laundry), the son of a housemaid, who has built a life of quiet respectability as a country doctor. During the long hot summer of 1948, he is called to a patient at Hundreds Hall, where his mother once worked. The Hall has been home to the Ayres family for more than two centuries. But it is now in decline and its inhabitants - mother, son and daughter - are haunted by something more ominous than a dying way of life. When he takes on his new patient, Faraday has no idea how closely, and how disturbingly, the family’s story is about to become entwined with his own.
However, the movie is not just about ghostly happenings, it is also a film about money, class and post-war Britain.
The matriarch of the family is played by Charlotte Rampling, with Will Poulter playing the war-scarred son Frederick. What is the secret to be revealed in this doomed Ayres family?
